The team which consisted of Hiruna Samarakoon, Anjana Senanayaka, Sanoj Punchihewa of the Faculty of Engineering, Sachith Keragala from the Faculty of Medicine and Hasindu Gamarachchi from University of New South Wales, Australia as the mentor was recognized as the 2nd runners up for their project of a portable real-time DNA analysis toolkit. Their toolkit along with the server that manages devices that run the toolkit enables simultaneous sequencing and analysis of DNA reads. DNA reads can be analyzed for DNA methylation, event alignment and for intermediate tasks like reads alignment, sorting, and indexing. The competition was held on the 7th of December 2019 at the IESL Auditorium.
Among the top 10 were two other teams from the Department of Computer Engineering, University of Peradeniya, the team testing123 that consists of Kaveesha Dilshani, Chamara Gunarathne, and Shehan Perera from the final year and team Genesis 1.0 of Avishka Dhananjaya, Prageeth Savinda and Sewwandie Nanayakkara from the 3rd year.

It was awarded for his final year project based work titled “An ensemble learning approach for improving electrocardiogram based human emotion recognition”, which was supervised by Prof. Roshan Ragel . Theekshana’s work has also been recently published in MDPI sensors journal ( Impact Factor 3.031 ).

Final year students win at iHack 5.0 https://cepdnaclk.github.io/department-website-2021/2019/11/04/393826/ Mon, 04 Nov 2019 00:29:09 +0000 https://cepdnaclk.github.io/department-website-2021/?p=393826 Team Testing123 of Prabhath Bandara, Kaveesha Dilshani, Chamara Gunarathne and Shehan Perera has been able to emerge as the 1st runner up at iHack 5.0 Inter-University hackathon organized by  University of Colombo School of Computing ISACA Student Group. 15 teams have been sorted out by considering all the project proposals submitted and the top 5 teams were selected to the final round after 24 hours of software development. The event was held on the 26th and 27th of October at the UCSC premises.

Pera Undergraduates Mark Their Name in Mora Xtreme 4.0. https://cepdnaclk.github.io/department-website-2021/2019/10/18/pera-undergraduates-mark-their-name-in-mora-xtreme-4-0/ Fri, 18 Oct 2019 00:33:45 +0000 https://cepdnaclk.github.io/department-website-2021/?p=393801 Team InterGreat, a group of second-year students of the Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya (UoP) has been the winner surpassing around 300 teams at MoraXtreme 4.0 which was held on the 12th of October 2019. The team consisted of Rahal Nanayakkara , Praveen Danajaya  and Parditha Alwis  from Departments of Electrical & Electronic Engineering and Computer Engineering from UoP. Also, team biteCode : Suren Sritharan, Gihan  Jayathilaka and Harshana Sumedha, final year students of the Department of Computer Engineering, UoP has secured 4th place at the same competition.

MoraXtreme 4.0 which was organized by the IEEE Student Branch of University of Moratuwa had around 300 teams in the initial round, from which 150 teams were filtered out for the final round after 6 hours of online coding.

The final round, which lasted for 12 hours of extreme coding came to end with University of Peradeniya Undergraduates marking their spot at the top of the leading board.

The competition which was organized by the IESL Student Chapter of the University of Moratuwa in collaboration with IESL-YMS, had over 16 teams from eight leading State Universities of Sri Lanka. The department congratulates Rusiru Thushara, NuwanPiyarathna, Nayana Thilanka of the Team Eye Coders for their victory and wishes them all the best for their future endeavors.

After the initial pitch, the top ten teams were selected for the final round where the finalists were given a 04 weeks time period to develop and implement their ideas. During this period,team 405 consisting of Anandi Karunaratne, Chalani Sankalpana, Imesh Ekanayake, Pubudu Premathilaka and Suneth Samarasinghe worked on implementing their idea of an automated bike sharing system where university students could borrow bicycles through a mobile application while the team Cybernics consisting of Ranushka LM, Pamoda WAD, Ishanthi DS and Shirly Ekanayake continued on their idea of an automated hydroponics system, which can automatically monitor and control a system of growing plants in a nutrient-rich water-based environment remotely through a web and a mobile application.Department congratulates all who were able to make it to the top of the competition and wish them all the best in improving and developing their products further.

The event was held in  Water’s edge, Colombo during (2-4)/8/2019 with the participation of 100 individuals: 20 teams consisting of data science industry professionals and university students. The participants for the event have been selected based on an online questionnaire on data science basics, and the teams have been formed arbitrarily from the selected participants. During the hackathon, the teams worked on a 32 hours on-site “smart city planing” pattern recognition challenge
