1. Testing Strategy & Methodology

Project KNOT underwent a rigorous multi-tier testing process designed to ensure institutional reliability, scheduling accuracy, and data security.

1.1 Multi-Level Testing Pyramid

• Unit Testing: Validating isolated helper functions, date formatters, and React component states.
• Integration Testing: Verifying interactions between Express API endpoints, MySQL database transactions, and Nodemailer email dispatchers.
• Automated Cron Engine Testing: Simulating time passage to test the 2-step verification prompt, countdown calculation, auto-cancellation, and slot freeing mechanisms.
• User Acceptance Testing (UAT): End-to-end manual testing conducted across all 5 user roles (Student, Lecturer, Booking Admin, Maintenance Admin, and Technician).
• Performance & Stress Testing: Testing 50MB payload limits for Base64 photo uploads and CSV timetable bulk ingestion.
• Hosting & Infrastructure Validation: Testing Cloudflare Tunnels (cloudflared), public domain routing (foe.knotpdn.tech, backend.knotpdn.tech), PM2 process persistence, and Docker multi-container stack resilience.

Code coverage metrics were gathered across backend micro-services, database initialization scripts, and gateway proxy routers.

A comprehensive Manual Test Matrix was executed across all 5 distinct user roles.

During system development and viva preparation, several critical defects were identified, analyzed, and successfully resolved.

7. Performance Benchmark & Security Validation

7.1 Performance Latency Benchmarks

   GET /api/auth/profile             : 12ms
   GET /api/rooms                    : 18ms
   POST /api/bookings                : 34ms
   PUT /api/admin/bookings/:id       : 28ms
   POST /api/faults (with Base64)    : 42ms

• Average Response Latency: 26.8ms across all endpoints.
• Concurrent Request Handling: Sustained 100 concurrent requests/sec without query connection drops using MySQL2 connection pooling.

7.2 Security Audit & Verification

• SQL Injection Prevention: All database interactions use prepared statements with parameterized queries (pool.query('SELECT ... WHERE id = ?', [id])).
• Role-Based Access Control (RBAC): Protected routes verify user role permissions prior to executing administrative actions.
• CORS Protection: Restricted Cross-Origin Resource Sharing rules enforced at the Gateway Proxy level.

8. Hosting, Cloudflare Tunnel & Production Infrastructure Validation Suite

8.1 Production Infrastructure Architecture Overview

To ensure high availability, SSL encryption, and seamless hosting deployment, Project KNOT was integrated with Cloudflare Tunnels (cloudflared) and PM2 Process Management.
