Introduction
Forensic medical departments serve as a critical bridge between medicine and the justice system by handling sensitive clinical forensic evaluations and postmortem investigations. To function effectively, these departments require precise data management. Currently, however, many institutions rely heavily on manual record keeping.
The reliance on traditional methods introduces several critical vulnerabilities and inefficiencies. Some of the existing problems include,
- Paper records: Physical documents are prone to degradation, misplacement, and physical damage.
- Difficulty in searching: Manually retrieving specific patient demographics or historical clinical forensic (MLEF) records is time-consuming and inefficient.
- Confidentiality: Maintaining strict privacy is challenging when physical files can be easily viewed or mishandled.
- Report generation: Compiling comprehensive autopsy or court reports by hand is labor-intensive and prone to human error.
- Evidence tracking: Without an automated system, ensuring a strict chain of custody for physical evidence and media assets is highly difficult.
The general Objective of this system is to design and develop a complete, secure Database System for a Forensic Medical Department to streamline medico-legal processes.
Specific Objectives:
- To digitize patient demographics and clinical forensic (MLEF) records.
- To automate the tracking of autopsy and death investigations.
- To establish a secure repository for evidence and media assets.
- To enforce normalization and clear functional dependencies within the database schema.
